PULPA Commemorated World Animal Day in Puntland

PUNTLAND, Garowe–October 4, 2024.

Puntland Livestock Professional Association with the support of Ministry of Livestock and Animal Husbandry Puntland, celebrated for the first time World Animal Day on October 4 in Puntland. The theme for this year — “Their World is our World too” — really resonated because it brought together everyone stakeholders to speak the language of animal welfare.

This event held in Garowe encompassed informative talks about animal welfare and highlighted some importance of dependent human-animal relationship within our ecosystem. Respected speakers from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change; and the Ministry of Livestock, spoke on sustainable practices and policies supporting animal rights, and animal welfare.

Event Highlights:

Presentations given by experts on Animal Welfare: Presenters shared very valuable insights into the best practices of animal care and management stressing treating animals with compassion and respect.

Speeches by Government Representatives: Officials from both ministries gave speeches to address delegates and discussed ongoing activities in addressing animal welfare standards and promotion of sustainable practices for livestock.

Community Engagement: Participants included veterinarians, livestock farmers, and interested parties in animal welfare who attended the event, exhibiting a collective spirit toward improving the welfare of animals throughout Puntland.

This celebration marks a major milestone for raising awareness about animal welfare in Puntland, signifying the government’s commitment to a culture of compassion for animals. PULPA remains devoted to making animal rights and needs heard in our communities.
